More than a decade has passed since the Yamaha PM1D and PM5D set the direction for digital live sound consoles, and now it's time for a new flagship that satisfies significantly increased modern requirements for quality and versatility when working with live sound. The Yamaha RIVAGE PM7 inherits the DNA that made the PM series consoles the darling of demanding audio engineers around the world, delivering advanced features and performance that take Yamaha products to new heights in digital mixing consoles.

The RIVAGE PM7 system consists of a control panel with a built-in CSD-R7 DSP module, RPio622 I/O stageboxes, three types of RY cards and two types of HY cards. The CSD-R7 is identical in size and layout to the "large" control surface of the RIVAGE PM10 CS-R10. With built-in DSP, RIVAGE PM7 offers similar high standards of performance and workflow efficiency in a relatively compact, portable system. Yamaha's PM brand continues to innovate and grow the live sound industry.   The ideal starting point for creative sound work is transparent, uncolored sound. All Yamaha mixers are built on this philosophy to allow engineers to accurately "see" the sound on stage, without coloration, and then add creative touches as needed. Yamaha's unwavering commitment to this concept continues with the RIVAGE PM7.   [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2ga3z-mtZk&feature=emb_logo[/embed ]

Two types of I/O rivers for perfect sound

I/O (input-output) modules for RIVAGE PM7, each of which works with its own type of audio network.

The first type is TWINLANe, with optical cable connection for simultaneous transmission of up to 400 audio channels. Combinations of the RPio622 and/or RPio222 I/O module and the HY256-TL or HY256-TL-SMF audio interface cards allow you to pass input signals from hybrid mic preamps that take Yamaha's concept of "natural sound" to new heights, as well as digital modules with flawless Rupert Neve Designs VCM transformers and SILK processing, which are amazingly musical and atmospheric.   The second digital audio protocol is Audinate's Dante, which is already the standard for CL and QL series digital consoles, as well as a number of other Yamaha products. The Dante-compatible Rio3224-D2 and Rio1608-D2 I/O modules, combined with the HY144-D expansion card, provide high-quality audio for the RIVAGE PM series.   Accurately and cleanly rendered stage sound provides the ideal basis for creative work.

Rupert Neve quality for all sound engineers

Equipped with RY-ML-SILK analog cards, the RPio622 and RPio222 I/O modules offer outstanding emulations transformer circuitry and SILK processing featured in Rupert Neve Designs mic preamps, immaculately modeled using Yamaha VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) technology.     Sound engineers appreciate Rupert Neve mic preamps for their pleasant natural compression and saturation. SILK processing is able to take this seductive sonic platform to the next level. Sounds that tend to get lost in the mix are given new life and brilliance with lush analog character.     The SILK processing function on the RY16-ML-SILK audio interface board with hybrid mic preamps offers two sound options: "RED" for bright, punchy sound and "BLUE" for solidity and punch. There is also a TEXTURE control that musically shapes the harmonic components to best capture the source. The benefits of SILK processing also become apparent when working with EQs and reverb plugins.     RIVAGE PM7 makes the coveted sound of Rupert Neve preamps available to a wider range of sound engineers who can use it in their creative work.

Built-in Dan Dugan Automixer

Working closely with Dan Dugan Sound Design, Dan Dugan's award-winning microphone automixer is built into RIVAGE PM digital mixing systems using state-of-the-art algorithms. Setup is simple: activate the processor in the insert for up to 64 channels to automatically optimize microphone gain distribution. The gain control is very smooth and natural, as if the mix is being controlled by experienced operators. The system also effectively reduces problems with feedback and comb filters. For speech tasks, especially in non-scripted situations, this allows the operator to focus on the details, not the faders, to create a high quality mix.

Convenience of work

The mixing console is the main instrument of the sound engineer. Convenience and responsiveness are critical, especially in today's booming live sound industry. That's why Yamaha digital consoles are designed to provide a unique combination of analog-style performance with cutting-edge, state-of-the-art digital technology available today. The worldwide recognition of Yamaha digital mixing consoles is a testament to their success, and the RIVAGE PM7 continues that tradition. It shares the same dimensions and control panel as the flagship RIVAGE PM10 and offers an identical user interface. With convenience and features fully geared towards today's soundstage, the RIVAGE PM series allows sound engineers to focus on sound and enjoy the creative process.

Yamaha's Ultimate Selected Channel Interface

Key to Yamaha's legendary digital console functionality is the Selected Channel concept, which provides direct access to the parameters of any channel selected using the SEL key. RIVAGE PM7's Selected Channel inherits the full-featured configuration of the flagship RIVAGE PM10, providing direct, quick access to all channel parameters. Encoders, buttons and indicators in a common layout make the most of available panel space for ease of use in all conditions and situations.

Synergy of touch displays and fader strips for intuitive operation

The RIVAGE PM7 control surface has three groups of 12 faders to which you can assign channels in the desired configuration. The two left-most fader groups operate with large touchscreen displays on the top panel, providing an expanded Centralogic operating environment. Channel strips run vertically into displays for clear, logical control. The ability to manage channels in groups of 12 provides flexibility for virtually any workflow.

A monitor section that can handle any task

Monitoring needs for live sound can vary greatly from job to job, so a flexible monitoring system is needed here. The RIVAGE PM7 has two monitor/cue outputs with independent level control, and up to eight source combinations can be stored for instant recall. The monitor section also offers delays, as well as an eight-band parametric EQ. An insert point before the EQ block allows you to use plug-ins in the monitor section. The carefully thought out and flexible features in the monitoring section of RIVAGE PM7 make it easy to adapt to any situation.

Convenience is in the details

The main encoders on the RIVAGE PM7 panel are surrounded by horseshoe-shaped indicator rings that display the current settings. The shape of the rings is designed to provide optimum visibility when, for example, the operator's view of the encoders is from below, which is often the case when multifunction encoders are positioned above the fader bars. The unique shape also ensures that the indicators at the 12 o'clock position are not hidden behind the encoder knob. Another important feature is the shape of the fader tips, developed from years of experience designing and honing mixer interfaces. The fader tips are ergonomically contoured for precise, comfortable control no matter where your finger touches the contour of the knob. This is a feature that can only be truly appreciated by touching it yourself. Overall, the console is designed with touchscreen displays and a "Selected Channel" section on the raised top panel to provide optimal visibility from the engineer's position, as well as easy access to all controls. The stage and the console are within view at the same time. The touchscreens are also within easy reach for effortless access.

Improved functionality

One of the most important advantages of modern digital consoles is the ability to store scenes and settings in memory. But different engineers can vary widely in mixing styles and ideas about how to use scene memory, so this feature must be implemented in the most flexible way.   The RIVAGE PM7 system provides many ways to "filter" scene memory recall operations. Focus recall, a feature that is already familiar to Yamaha console users, allows you to specify the types of data to be recalled. Recall Safe works differently, preventing certain data types from being called. The "Isolate" filter now allows you to specify entire channel modules, including EQ libraries and dynamics, etc., that will be protected from memory recall operations. This means that even if certain channel parameters are protected by Recal Safe, for example, you can instantly isolate and protect the entire channel without changing the Recal Safe settings. This is a feature that will be of great value in situations where scene memory is widely used.

Overlay filter to quickly respond to sudden changes

The Overlay filter is another new feature that can greatly expand the usefulness of scene memory. This filter can be “overlayed” on the current mix to apply offsets to fader positions and send levels to mixes/matrices regardless of the scene settings called out. An example of how this can be used is the appearance of an unscheduled performer requiring an adjustment in the level of the corresponding channel. Using the Overlay filter, you can make a temporary relative level change on that channel and then instantly return to the original level. The Overlay filter will prove its worth in situations that require sudden changes, as well as the ability to easily revert to the original settings.

Functions to work with in broadcast applications

RIVAGE PM7 supports 5.1-channel surround panning and monitoring for broadcast applications and has two surround buses for efficient international broadcasting. There is also a Mix Minus feature that allows you to remove a specific source from your broadcast with just a few simple steps.

Two convenient recording approaches live sound

Professional quality real-time recording is becoming an important feature in live sound consoles. In addition to convenient 2-channel USB recording, the RIVAGE PM7 supports multi-track recording via Dante audio networking to meet the widest possible range of serious recording needs.   The 2-track USB recording function directly records the output of the STEREO or MIX bus to the flash drive. Background music or sound effects recorded on a flash drive can also be assigned to any input channel for playback. Sample rate conversion is provided for both input and output, so the recorder function can be used without worrying about the system's sample rate. Recording or playback of WAV or MP3 files is supported.   Multitrack recordings can be made to a computer running a DAW application via the Dante audio network. High-resolution recording up to 128 channels (input and output) at 96 kHz is possible if the computer is equipped with a Dante Accelerator PCIe expansion card. With Dante Virtual Soundcard, the maximum number of input/output tracks is 64.   Multi-track recordings of rehearsals made in this way can be used for a "virtual sound check" later when the performers are not available. Input patching for all required channels can be switched in one operation for recording and virtual sound check. Recorder playback and stage signals can even be combined as needed.
